Family Farm Olympics at Liberty Ridge Farm

Columbus Day Weekend Events to Benefit Special Olympics

Schaghticoke, NY, October 7, 2008.  Liberty Ridge Farm, home of the Election 08 Corn Maze, is inviting family teams to compete in the 2008 Family Farm Olympics this Columbus Day Weekend.  A full slate of old fashioned games and competitions will be held over the three day holiday, with every competitor winning a medal.  The Family Farm Olympics will benefit local Special Olympics programs, with a percentage of every paid admission during the weekend being donated to Special Olympics New York, who will be on hand with information about the organization, the events, and the athletes.

An Opening Ceremony Parade, farm style at 1pm will kick-off each day’s events, starting an afternoon of Family Farm races, relays and games.  Participants young and old are invited to compete in 3-legged Races, Potato Sack Races, the Farmer Dress Relay, the Egg & Spoon Relay and the Lemon Derby.  Each event ends with an Olympic Awards Ceremony, where all competitors receive a medal while standing on the Liberty Ridge Farm Olympic Award Podium.  Photography and cheering is encouraged.

“With 2008 being an Olympic year, we are pleased to be supporting the local athletes and programs of the Special Olympics,” said Cynthia Gifford of Liberty Ridge Farm,  “for every paid admission this weekend Liberty Ridge Farm will donate 50 cents to Special Olympics New York.”

Throughout the weekend the Family Farm Olympics festivities include specialty foods, face painting and the balloon artistry, tricks and jokes of Farmer Bruce.  All are invited to create a scarecrow along the Scarecrow Row.  The Family Farm Olympics will be from 1:00P.M. – 5:00 P.M Saturday, Sunday and Monday, October 11th - 13th.  Admission is only $9 per person, with children 3 and under free.

Families attending the 2008 Family Farm Olympics can enjoy all the fun at Liberty Ridge Farm with the Election 08 Corn Maze, Brad’s Barnyard of Family Fun Adventure, and The Gifford Barn.  Kids love playing in the 8-acre Brad’s Barnyard of family farm adventure, featuring the Hill Billy Band, Giant Gerbil Wheels, Pig races, trolley rides and feeding the farm animals.

The Election 08 Corn Maze, the Capital Regions original and largest corn maze, is a 12 acre labyrinth of pathways through the Republican Elephant, the Democrat Donkey, and Troy’s own Uncle Sam.  Everyone, 4 to 94, can ‘vote with their feet’ and cast a ballot for the party of their choice in this years Election 08.

Liberty Ridge Farm, where we grow memories, is an agricultural tourism destination and working farm on the historic Hoosic River.  The Gifford Family hosts a Fall Festival featuring the Capital Region’s original and largest cornfield maze, Brad’s Barnyard activities and special events.   The Fall Festival begins September 12th and runs through November 2nd.  The Gifford Barn is available for Birthday Parties, Weddings, Family Gatherings and Corporate events.  Liberty Ridge Farm, 29 Bevis Road, Schaghticoke, NY.  For information or to book a special event or a Camp Celebration rental, call 518-664-1515.  www.libertyridgefarmny.com
